About the event

A talk about why humans get dementia and other diseases associated with ageing, how lifestyle changes can help the brain stay healthy for longer, and some of the recent new research break throughs.

Lucy is a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience at the University of the West of England, and holds an honorary position at the University of Bristol. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, and a Masters degree and doctorate from Imperial College, London. She has a research lab investigating the role of inflammation in Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. The lab uses human brain cells transformed from skin cells to help understand how inflammation might 'tip the balance' and play a part in how these diseases develop. With this understanding it may be possible one day target inflammation to prevent these diseases developing.
